What is your role at Volvo IT?
I work as an IT architect at Consulting Services and method specialist at ADT (Application Development Techniques).
Can you describe the type of environment Volvo IT has in the Java area?
We’re applying the latest trends in the Java area, however we have Volvo’s best interest at heart, therefore we do it in a business safe and cost efficient way, to help Volvo get the most value from IT.
Volvo is leaning towards open standards for Java. Millions of Java open source contributors can’t be wrong! Open source communities are where the trends in IT emerge nowadays.
Are there related technologies, supporting tools or platforms that we use that are cutting edge in the IT industry?
We have powerful mainframes equipped with zAAP processors, enabling Java support, delivering computing power to the business via Java IT solutions. We use Message Broker for central information exchange between IT systems. Apart from technologies, we fully support Application Lifecycle Management through Maven automated builds, Hudson continuous integration, Jira issues tracker, SVN and ClearCase for Software Configuration Management. We had incorporated Agile methods in both software engineering (Scrum) and maintenance (Kanban) for maximizing IT productivity and efficiency.
What is your favorite part about working with Java at Volvo IT?
Looking into new things, seeing how it may fit into our industry driven IT reality, often seeing them becoming a part of it.
