Powertrain Production in Skövde installed a digitized system designed by Volvo IT to support operators when picking motor parts. The system makes the job less complicated and prevents errors.
The system is a sub function of the MACS global material handling system and is based on the Pick-by-light method. When the operator screens the id-number for the engine, a combination of light bulbs and displays beside the crates shows what and how many items to pick.
The new system has proven to improve quality significantly. As a bonus, this also has a positive environmental effect since less material is wasted and transportation between factories is reduced.
