Volvo IT Newsdesk
Hidden away in the archipelago of Gothenburg, Sweden – home to a bird reserve and sceneries one can only dream of – lies one of Europe's greenest data centers. Follow us behind the scenes to learn how Volvo IT provides resilience.
The sensitive birdlife, as well as marine wildlife, in the bay above the major data center halls require the highest of standards when it comes to green and sustainable IT. Keeping the surrounding area in mind when planning, building and on a daily basis operating the globally connected data center is therefore among Volvo IT’s main focuses.
“By using seawater as the major cooling-mechanism and letting nothing but green energy power the center we are proud to contribute to an even more thriving wildlife on the West Coast of Sweden,” says Olle Högblom, Head of Volvo IT.
Not to forget, another key factor and focus when operating such an important IT service for our clients, is resilience. In a data center where large amounts of information is being transferred and stored, availability and stability is and should always be guaranteed by the provider. Therefore, Volvo IT is very proud to say that since the start of our data center in Gothenburg (2007) there has been no unbound down-time.
As one can easily understand the safety and security regulations as well as precautions taken at such a hugely important place as a globally connected data center are rigorous. Therefore only very few people are allowed into the data center. However, as it is in our ambition to be transparent and open about Volvo IT we would like to give everyone a chance to experience our data center. This film gives you the possibility to take a tour behind the scenes and to learn more about the environmentally friendly benefits provided to our customers world-wide.
