Sustainable IT at Volvo IT

by Volvo IT Newsdesk

Volvo IT is involved in the development of a new Swedish standard for Sustainable IT.

The standard is about highlighting IT to minimize environmental impact on the business.

”The standard is intended as a tool to support organizations in their sustainability efforts to reduce the overall environmental impact and to better structure the use of IT. The standard is connected to ISO 14001 but also includes proposal for concrete actions.” says Roger Eskilsson at Volvo IT. Roger is Volvo IT’s representative in the work developing the new standard.

Volvo IT already works with Sustainable IT in many ways. For instance by reducing the carbon footprint produced by our data centers and IT equipment, development and design of software and applications for more environmentally friendly production, as well as delivering solutions that help our customers improve their impact on the environment.

Another example of Volvo IT’s work with Sustainable IT is the App Commute Greener that Volvo IT has developed and operates to promote greener commuting.

The proposed standard on Sustainable IT is now out for consultation and the standard is expected to be completed in late 2013.
