Volvo IT has been commissioned to develop and maintain FordEcat, a system Ford's dealers in Europe are using to streamline the sale of parts and service. A new version of the system will have been installed at 5,500 dealers in 40 countries by the end of June.

WirelessCar, BMW and Connexis won an award at the Telematics Detroit 2008 conference for launching the Next Generation Telematics Protocol, NGTP. Using NGTP, drivers can access new services without making technical adjustments inside the vehicle.

Volvo IT was one of the winners when the IP telephony award was presented in Stockholm last week. The IP telephony award is a joint venture between the Swedish magazine Telekom idag (Telecom today) and the IP telephony forum.

Magnus Carlander, 52, has been appointed new President of Volvo Information Technology. Carlander has been a member of Volvo IT’s management group since 1998 and his duties have included responsibility for the development of IT support for the Volvo Group’s administrative services.

For the second time, Volvo IT has signed up as the official IT supplier for the Volvo Ocean Race. The race will begin October 4 in Alicante, Spain, and end in St Petersburg, Russia, June 27 2009.

On 1 January, Volvo IT opened an office in Japan. The 250 employees and contractors have joined Volvo IT from System Brain, Nissan Diesel's former IT company, which has been incorporated into Volvo IT Japan.
